The spirit of Marcel Proust inveighed upon me to reflect on an over-heard comment by my boss. SHe invoked the long forgotten word (or rather, acronym) "CIT." For those of you who never went to camp, or have blocked the experience from your minds. CIT is "Counselor In Training," a nebulous concept designed to appease those older kids who are stuck in kkkamp all summer long. I have met some of these people and nobody liked them, usually because they were obnoxiously insistent that they were more mature, or more knowledgable, or just plain better than the rest of us. In retrospect, they were probably compensating for lonliness or a sense of a lack of power in their own lives by laying a "power trip", as best they could, on campers there for only two or four weeks. But boy, did I hate them then.
